Periotest Implant Stability Measurement Device

The Periotest M is a cordless electrical measuring instrument for dental practice, made by Medizintechnik Gulden as type 3218. Gulden specifies two applications: assessment of the osseointegration of dental implants, and diagnosis and assessment of periodontopathies. The instrument works by measuring the damping characteristics of the periodontium and, indirectly, tooth mobility, which it reports as a Periotest value on a scale from −8.0 to +50.0; lower values indicate greater stability. The handpiece returns to a charging base between measurements and switches itself off after three minutes. Gulden cautions that treatment decisions should not rest on the Periotest value alone.
